* ==== Saxon Locomotive Works International Division ==== * General Motors (EMD) F40PH diesel-electric - BVETSS 1.0 Compliant - http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk/bvetss Produced in accordance with the Bve Developer Guidelines http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk/developerguidelines =========================================================== OVERVIEW: This locomotive is most commonly used for passenger service, in a push-pull format, here running with twelve single-deck coaches, the rearmost one being a DVT type. It features the same type of engine as the GP38 but uprated to give around 3000 hp and it's still a revvy lump with a great sound. This loco is also one of the few American units to have a self-lapping brake for greater control when stopping. Top speed is around 90 mph in normal conditions. =========================================================== DRIVING TIPS: Depending on conditions and available adhesion, you may find that you cannot apply full power from standstill, in which case you should throttle up gradually as speed increases. It takes some practice to determine when the wheels are about to slip, but once mastered you will be able to apply more than enough acceleration to get moving under most conditions. This is particularly true in cold or snow such as on the Rocky Mountain route. The same caveat applies to braking - dumping all the air in one hit will get you sliding merrily past the next stop sign or signal as you struggle for grip... steady as you go now :) =========================================================== CREDITS & THANKS: - Tim Corbett for his original F40, the excellent Nathan horn sound and the engine recording from which the new samples were made * http://www.nvta.co.uk - Anthony Bowden for Run5 - 7 (passing & steel bridge sounds) * http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk - Assorted run sounds modified from Steve Green's GP38 * http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk - New engine and control gear fitted and tested at Saxon Locomotive Works' International Division * http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve - Panel and graphics by SLW, derived from a North American Locomotive Works design for MSTS - thanks to Chuck Schneider & Co. for the support, please see nalw-readme.txt for more info - Anyone else accidentally omitted from this list - if you have any queries about material in this release, please contact me using the mail train facility on the SLW website, thanks! ©Wulf, November 2003
